Firstly, can I just say… http://www.alohamrhand.com Bwahahahaha.

Secondly,  I’ve been very busy lately, due to my rediscovery of the absolute BRILLIANCE that is: Wizard Rock.  If you don’t know what that is, I suggest you visit the Wizrocklopedia at once. Basically if you like Harry Potter and you like music, you will probably dig this. Ok, the talent level varies across the genre. But in the case of such classics as Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys and The Moaning Myrtles, and such amazing new stuff as that by Alas Earwax! (I dare you not to sing along with “There’s A Face In The Back Of My Head”) and Ministry of Magic, I think you’ll love it.

Thirdly, I have started a website to keep all the Muggles abreast of the latest brilliant Potter fanworks. That does not mean it will be another site  about “Helena Bonham Carter is coming back for HBP!” and “It’s Evanna Lynch’s birthday! Happy birthday love!” etc. Instead it will focus entirely on fan stuff. Because it’s all about the fans. Pwnzors.

This site will be up from Friday, and will have RSS feeds for “general” recommendations - fanfics, Wizard Rock songs, graphics and websites - and “slash” recommendations - all of the aforegoing but with a gay twist. Slash is power. Also, in case you haven’t got an RSS feed aggregator handy - not to fear! There will be an email newsletter alternative. Oh, and you can sign up for updates on either fics or songs, by RSS or email, too. From Friday. Here. Don’t sayI’m not good to you.

Finally, I’m writing some Wizard Rock songs of my own. Sort of. I’m attempting a Harry Potter musical parody. Ish. I’ll let you know how it goes :)

Sorry I’ve been neglecting this place a bit. I’ve been really busy lately with The Campaign for Real Curves. It’s coming along slowly but surely, here. However, EVERYTHING is going to suffer until the end of June. Because…

Script Frenzy

Yup. Script Frenzy. I’m writing a script in a month. You might have heard of National Novel Writing Month (affectionately named NaNoWriMo), which happens every November? Well this is the script version, just newly launched. And as with everything in this life - it seemed like a good idea at the time.

…is through Thorntons Fruit Cremes.

Well, this girl, anyway.

Curvy though my ass is, I meant it as an expression :-P with regard to this girl whose ass - in my opinion, at least - is most certainly not…
Ok. Look at this picture and then form an opinion, please, before reading on: Is this girl curvy?

***********************************************************
Okay…

This woman’s name is Myleene Klass. You might know her, she used to be in the original Popstars band, Hear’Say, and then she had a short and not particularly successful solo career as a classical musician. However since then, she has become more famous for her stint in the I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here jungle in November, where she spent a lot of time in a white (Rigby & Peller, I think) bikini, causing her to be admired far and wide in the press. She is supposedly a UK size 10 (although I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more like 8-10) - which is a US size 6, or 4-6, although I don’t know what it is in European sizes, sorry.
This is not what has made me mad (yes I’m getting there, I promise)…

I’ve been reading about her in newspapers and magazines and the word which always comes up is “curvy”. Do you think this woman is curvy? I know I sure as hell do not. And ok, I might be a bit biased, since she makes me look pretty huge, and I’m rather proud of my boobs and she has hardly any (sorry but it’s true). But they’ve all been applauding her for being curvy in this relentlessly thin world. And then today, I read an interview with her in the new, May edition of Company magazine, which is entitled, “Size zero? No, thanks.” Fair enough, size zero is very much the issue people like to take a stand on nowadays…I’ve been known to share strong opinions on it myself. But the thing that really got to me was this one response. When asked about the bikini, she talks about how it was completely unexpected, yadda yadda. And then: “For me, the best thing to come out of those shower scenes was having women approach me in the street to say thanks for looking like a real woman.”

Now hold up there. A ‘real woman’? Does she mean Nicole Richie? Because if not, I’m really struggling to see it. Presumably, she didn’t mean ONE real woman, she meant that they think she’s the embodiment of an average woman. What we, the great public, are really like.

Just to put this HUGELY SKEWED (well in my opinion anyway  ) pronouncement in perspective, here are some statistics which appeared in the 16th April edition of Now magazine’s “Official UK Body Survey”:

* The average woman in the UK is a dress size 16. This is equivalent to an American size 12. A TWELVE.
* The average bra size is a 36C. Somehow I do NOT think that that is the size Myleene wears.
* The average woman also weighs 10 stone, 2 pounds. This is 142 pounds. Does Myleene look like she weighs that much? Not unless she has VERY heavy bones…

Now, do you think Myleene’s curvy? Or is our society COMPLETELY screwed up, if we seem to think that a woman who is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the national average size - and, let’s be honest, quite possibly than the size of a lot of the people we know - really epitomizes the curves and womanhood we should strive to have, simply because she is not *quite* as straight up and down as these size zero models in magazines? This is so stupid!! No wonder so many people suffer from anorexia!!

Views, opinions? - wouldn’t you much rather date/be like one of THESE women?:

I have a new phone on contract. £40 a month for 3000 free texts and 500 free minutes ^^ I think that’s pretty good considering that if I had gone one day later it would have only been 1000 texts and 500 minutes for the same price.

Anyway ^^ I have to work tonight >_< I don’t want to. It’s busy, and business is bad.

Blah. My legs hurt. I have done so much walking this week. I want a shower but we have no hot water and it isn’t fair >_< Mum’s turned it on but it’ll be another half an hour before I can get in there. Good job I only start work at six, eh?

Today is Tuesday.

I went to the cinema yesterday to kill the 3 hour gap between lectures (plus an unexpected 35 minutes) and saw I Want Candy. It was good.

Also, today a lollipop man told me a joke: “A man goes to the doctor and says ‘Doctor, one day I feel like a wigwam and the next I feel like a teepee!’ ‘Ah,’ sez the good doc, ‘I know what’s wrong.’ ‘Is it serious?’ he asks, alarmed. ‘Oh no, you’re just two tents.’

That is all.

Hehe. I love that word.

Aaaanyway. Yeah. My financial situation is back to normal, and my boyfriend is back from Barcelona, even if he was STILL hungover when he got back. I’m trying to persuade my hair to behave itself, and it isn’t working >_<

College tomorrow… I really need to get on with my coursework. It’s getting to the point now where even I’m worrying, but I just can’t bring myself to do anything. It’s annoying, but I can handle it, I suppose. Meh. My English one seems pretty easy.

I’m trying to move all the chapters of all my stories on to digitalkiss over from Quizilla. Perhaps when I’ve done it I’ll end up leaving Quizilla again… maybe. Probably not. Hahaha.

Oh well. See ya!

Shop!

Stereotypically girly or not, it’s true.

Between Saturday and today (Monday), I bought 6 CDs, 4 magazines, chewing gum, and 8 double chocolate cookies from Millie’s Cookies.

Distraction and chocolate. Yay me.

Had one of the biggest shocks of my life, today. My bank balance stands at a whopping…

£6.75

So. I am in some measure of trouble…  With two birthdays coming up soon. And it’s not even like I can say ‘oh, I don’t know them that well’, because this is Poli (one of my best friends) and my boyfriend. However, I have worked out that if I save the majority of my wages until the end of August (Uni in September, I think), I’ll have £1,500. So that’s a comfort, I suppose…

Yeah, well. This is my first blog post. Laur beat me to ‘the’ first blog post, but this is mine, so it’s alright.

I have to work tonight, which is not nice, but I suppose I need the money…

So. The very first post on our brand spanking new blog, on our brand spanking new site…Isn’t this exciting?!?!?!

Well, I think it is. Maybe that’s because it’s me writing this. And, yes, it is me. Honest :-P And again I find myself saying: So.

I just handed in an essay for Journalism class that is about half the word count short of the minimum they gave us :-( I didn’t realise at the time that the word count had been increased, of course. Gah. Hopefully it will work out all right.

At the moment, I’m waiting for the return of my Jane Eyre essay for English, as well as an essay on gender inequalities for Sociology, and have one critical commentary to do for History as well as one more piece for Journalism, before March is out.

I will keep you posted.
